The Jidai Matsuri ( 時代祭り ) or Festival of the Ages is held annually on October 22nd to celebrate Kyoto's impressive history.
The procession starts from the Imperial Palace along a 4.5km path and ends at the Heian Shrine.
Recently I purchased some beautiful trays that were made in Wajima in the Ishikawa prefecture for our hatsugama in a few weeks time ( some tea terms can be found here ). As usual I like to research the area an item comes from and Wajima is noted for its beautiful lacquerware called Wajima-nuri (輪島塗) and the morning markets (Asaichi 朝市) which are said to date back over 1000 years.
Also in the area are the picturesque rice terraces which are too small to bring in machinery. Volunteers help the owners of the paddies during planting and harvesting.
Recently Shiroyone Senmaida Rice Fields entered into the Guinness World Records as the largest solar powered LED display. Over 20,000 pink LED's were used.
I think I prefer candles......
